Highway 29 (west side) has the towns and big wineries; the Silverado Trail is quieter.
- Napa (city): Most hotels, walkable downtown, best value. An hour from San Francisco.
- Yountville: Walkable, with The French Laundry.
- St. Helena: Main Street among major wineries.
- Calistoga: Hot springs and lower prices.

Calistoga and Carneros Resorts
Solage in Calistoga has cottages, a mineral pool and mud baths. Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley has its own winery.
In Carneros, Stanly Ranch and Carneros Resort and Spa have vineyard cottages. Carneros is the easiest base for adding Sonoma.

Cheaper than the resorts and walkable to dinner.
