The natural staging point for Big Sur. Do 17-Mile Drive at golden hour, spend the morning at the aquarium, and walk Carmel-by-the-Sea before heading south.
What to Do in Monterey
Save 17-Mile Drive for the last hour of light
In at the Pacific Grove gate, out into Carmel for dinner.
Book the aquarium for opening
By midday the kelp forest tunnels are shoulder to shoulder.
Walk the recreation trail to Lovers Point
Flat and on the water from Cannery Row. Otters on the rocks.
Wander Carmel-by-the-Sea on foot
