Planning a Trip to Idaho
The least-visited state in the West and the easiest one to have to yourself. The Sawtooths north of Ketchum look like the Tetons without the crowd, and the hot springs are free.
What to Do in Idaho
Come into Stanley over Galena Summit
The overlook drops the whole Sawtooth Range in front of you.
Soak at a roadside hot spring
Boat Box and Sunbeam are free, off the highway, best after dark.
Walk in to Sawtooth Lake
Ten miles round trip from Iron Creek. Start early.
Detour to Shoshone Falls in spring
Higher than Niagara with the runoff up, a trickle by August.
