Planning a Trip to Sonoma County
Sonoma is the version of wine country you can still do on a whim: barns instead of chateaux, and an hour later you are standing on the Pacific at Fort Ross.
What to Do in Sonoma County
Base yourself on the Healdsburg plaza
Tasting rooms, bakeries and dinner all within two blocks.
Drive the Russian River out to the coast
Highway 116 through Guerneville to Jenner. Redwoods the whole way.
Bring lunch to Fort Ross
A Russian fort on a bluff, picnic tables, almost nobody there.
Walk among the old growth at Armstrong Redwoods
Flat loop under 1,400-year-old trees, 15 minutes from Guerneville.
