Planning a Trip to Lake Tahoe
The 72-mile loop around the lake is one of the best drives in the state. Sand Harbor and Emerald Bay get busy by nine — go at sunrise and you get them nearly alone.
What to Do in Lake Tahoe
Get to Sand Harbor before eight
The lot fills and closes, often before nine in July.
Do the full 72-mile loop in one day
Emerald Bay on the west side, cliffs on the Nevada side.
Bike the East Shore Trail to Hidden Beach
Three paved miles from Incline Village. Rentals at the trailhead.
Paddle out at Bonsai Rock at sunrise
Small pullout on Highway 28 with barely any parking.
