Planning a Trip to Mammoth
Mammoth is the base camp for the Eastern Sierra. The Lakes Basin, Devils Postpile, and the whole 395 corridor open up from here once the passes clear.
What to Do in Mammoth
Loop the Lakes Basin road at sunrise
Twin, Mary and Horseshoe are glass before the wind picks up.
Shuttle in to Devils Postpile
Cars are restricted in summer. Rainbow Falls is two miles on.
Stop at Convict Lake on the way in
Five minutes off the 395, flat loop the whole way round.
Soak in the hot springs off Benton Crossing
Unsigned dirt roads east of the highway. Go at dusk.
