Planning a Trip to Big Sur

Ninety miles of cliffs, bridges, and pullouts between Carmel and San Simeon. There is no shortcut and no cell service — that is rather the point.

What to Do in Big Sur

  1. Drive it north to south

Every turnout ends up on your side of the road.

  2. Stand over McWay Falls

A ten-minute walk from the Julia Pfeiffer Burns lot.

  3. Find the keyhole at Pfeiffer Beach

Unmarked turn down Sycamore Canyon Road. Best in January.

  4. Book dinner somewhere with a view before you go

Six restaurants across ninety miles, and they fill weeks out.
