Planning a Trip to Colorado
The San Juans in the southwest and Rocky Mountain National Park in the north are two different trips. Both are best in late September when the aspens go gold.
What to Do in Colorado
Drive Trail Ridge Road across the park
Tops 12,000 feet. Open Memorial Day to mid-October.
Take the Million Dollar Highway slowly
Ouray to Silverton. No guardrails, and an hour for 25 miles.
Reserve the Maroon Bells shuttle
Cars are restricted in season. Go for the sunrise reflection.
Climb the Great Sand Dunes barefoot at dusk
Midday sand runs over 140°F. Late light carves the ridgelines.
