Planning a Trip to Sequoia
General Sherman is the headline, but the quiet groves off the Generals Highway are the reason to stay. Pair it with Kings Canyon next door — one pass covers both.
What to Do in Sequoia
Climb the 350 steps up Moro Rock
Short, steep, exposed, and the Great Western Divide at the top.
Walk past General Sherman onto the Congress Trail
Two miles further in the groves are as big and nobody is there.
Drive the Generals Highway slowly
5,000 feet of switchbacks. Long vehicles are discouraged.
Add a day for Kings Canyon
Same pass. Highway 180 dead-ends at Zumwalt Meadow.
